Jaeyeon Park

Jaeyeon Park, piano

Korean pianist Jaeyeon Park is known for her artistry as a soloist and collaborative musician and intelligence as an educator. International Piano Magazine (South Korea) stated that her playing “demonstrated a sophisticated interpretation with undeniable technique.” She maintains an active international career playing a highly diverse range of repertoire.

Dr. Park has received numerous grants from the Arts Council Korea for support of her solo concerts including “Reflections on the Baroque I & II,” “An Evening of Mozart I & II,” “Lisztian Legacy,” “In with the New,” and “Piano Poem.” Performances have taken her to venues across Asia, Europe, and North America.

Dr. Park has appeared as a soloist with the Gangnam Symphony Orchestra, Gwangju Symphony Orchestra, Benusto Orchestra, Jeong Yul Sung Festival Orchestra, Camerata Chonnam Orchestra, and the Ukraine Kiev National Radio Orchestra where her performance of Mozart’s C major Piano Concerto K.467 was broadcast on KBS-FM.

Dr. Park is a prize winner of the Wideman International Piano Competition, Osaka International Music Competition, Sidney M. Wright Piano Accompanying Competition, and Bradshaw and Buono International Piano Competition. She was also a featured Artist for the Korean Piano Association, Korean Piano Duo Association, and Korean Liszt Society.

An active chamber musician, she is the founder of Ensemble-On, which has provided numerous thematic programs since 2018 and has been broadcasted on MBC-FM, KBS-FM, and KBC-TV.

Dr. Park has been performing piano duo repertoire with her husband Naoki Hakutani, and they have been invited to notable venues throughout Asia and the United States.

Prior to joining UA Little Rock, Dr. Park was a Professor of Piano at Chosun University in Korea where she served as Department Chair for six years. She was awarded Chosun University’s Faculty Award of Excellence in Teaching (2010, 2011, and 2020) and Award of Excellence in Research (2012, 2013, and 2016). She received MM and DMA degrees from the University of Texas at Austin where she was the recipient of the Mary D. Bold Scholarship, Marturite Fairchild Endowed Presidential Scholarship, and Sidney M. Wright Scholarship. She received her BM degree from Seoul National University where she was the recipient of the School of Music Scholarship and graduated with top honors. She began her early study at Sunhwa Art Middle School and Sunhwa Art High School where she graduated with top honors.
