Nathan Groot, viola
Nathan Groot is a music instructor at the Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences, and the Arts, where he directs the string ensemble and teaches applied strings, music theory, music history, and other courses. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Georgia, a Master of Music degree from Miami University, and a Bachelor of Music degree from Tennessee Tech University. As a soloist, he has performed in the United States, Bulgaria, and Austria, and has performed and recorded multiple world premieres. He has also received awards as a chamber musician, including the national American Viola Society Ensemble Invitational Competition in 2021. As an orchestral violist, Groot frequently performs as a substitute with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra and Conway Symphony Orchestra. Previously, he performed in principal and section roles with the Bryan Symphony Orchestra, Rome Symphony Orchestra, and Oak Ridge Symphony Orchestra. He has also recorded television soundtracks in Nashville, including for the History Channel’s Vikings, and for a documentary with songwriter and performer Kishi Bashi.
